Today, I got tired of the fish staying still at the top of the water, I wanted to trap him against one side of the bowl with a toothpick, so I tried to do just that. Of course, this fish hasn't had any treatments yet, so he was pretty energetic. He swam away quickly each time I tried to trap him with a toothpick.
So, I chased him a little with the toothpick and kept him under water for about 5 minutes or so. Then I had to go, because I had an errand I needed to run, so I could not continue. Otherwise I imagined I would have kept him underwater for longer. I just do not want to kill another fish. Do treatments, maybe, yes. But not to the point of death. I want the fish to recover.
I'm going to observe this fish now, for the next few minutes, and see if he still swims around. If not, then, I guess it's time for the plastic fork.

I noticed he did swim under water a little, but not as long or as rigorous as before. Makes me want to chase him around with a fork and see if I can pin him to the side of the bowl. Wait, here he goes now, he's swimming a little around the tank. It is so short lived though then he floats to the top of the tank and seems to stay there for awhile. I think I'd like to chase him around for 10 minutes or so and keep him underwater for that time, then see how he does.
ReplyDeleteI do feel less stressed about him than I did before today, I guess it does me good to get away from him, if I stay near him for too long, I just get more stressed out and want to take it out on him in one way or another. But I do wish he'd be more active.
ReplyDeleteOK I did it, pushed him underwater with a fork. Now he's swimming at the bottom of the tank. But why does he do it only when I coax him down there? That's frustrating.
ReplyDeleteHe seems to swim in spurts, he can't swim smoothly, I wonder if there is something wrong with him?
ReplyDeleteI think I've been wearing this fish out. I was tired of him standing still in the tank so I chased him violently around with a fork in the bowl. I pinned him to the sides of the bowl a couple of times, and pinned him to the bottom of the tank once. Now I am going to try and do that again. I can feel it, he is running out of energy. Let's see if it can happen again.
ReplyDeleteNow I've got him, got him pinned to the bottom of the tank with a plastic fork. He can't move at all. I'm just watching his facial expressions. He's breathing a little more heavily now.
Now he is easy to pin. I've pinned him 3 or 4 times. Now he's at the top, enjoying a rare breath of air. I'm about to do it to him again. I can tell he's getting weak. He can still swim around, but doesn't have the resistance he once did.
ReplyDeleteIs he slightly on one side? I think he's beginning to do that. Anyway, he's breathing heavily. I've really made him move around. I know he's had a hard battle. And, the battle's not over yet.
ReplyDeleteIt's so easy to pin him now that it's almost no fun. Still, I'm going to do it a few more times anyway.
ReplyDeleteI think I worked him over pretty good. He's all tired out now. He's just sitting at the top, breathing heavily. Do I start poking him with a needle now? Or do I let him recover?
ReplyDeleteWell now he's leaning at one side, breathing slightly. I'm trying to pick his eye with a toothpick but he moves slightly. I don't think he'll be doing very much with his life now at all. Not very much at all. I have a feeling I'm going to need a new fish tomorrow. Maybe and hopefully the new fish will be more active than he was.
ReplyDeleteHe can't eat. Not anymore. Even when the food is right in front of him, he won't touch it. I think he's doomed.
ReplyDeleteHe can't do much at all. I want to finish him off, but not while my sister's here so she will know I killed the fish. I'll wait till she goes home and then start on his final moments.
ReplyDeleteHe's been pinned a few more times. Now he's on top and on one side. I definitely think he's damaged goods. When my sister leaves, I'll finish him off. I guess I just didn't like that he wasn't an active fish. Too bad for him.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm going to give him time to rest. Of course, I think that it is too late for this fish.
ReplyDeleteHe's breathing a little heavy and sitting at the top on one side of the bowl. I think he's slightly on one side when he's in the middle of the bowl. I'm waiting to see if / when he takes a breath. I'll probably finish him off tonight.
ReplyDeleteI think it's harder for him to take a breath. I see him near the surface, breathing heavier than normal. But he doesn't go up to take a breath. He wouldn't have to move very far, just lift up his head a little bit. I'm going to see if I can get him to swim a little bit.
ReplyDeleteHe is laying on one side on the top. Things aren't looking too good for him right now. He's still breathing, but that's about it. I pinned him a few more times, I guess he just couldn't take it. Let's see... It's 8:30 pm right now, I started working on him at about 4 pm, that's 4.5 hours... No wonder he's almost finished. There's only so much that a small fish can take.
ReplyDeleteHe's swimming on his side in a circle around the perimeter of the bowl. Things don't look so good for him. I know he isn't doing well. The question is, how much do I let him suffer? Maybe he will straighten out. But I think that probably won't happen. It seems like he's struggling to get his head up and take a breath. But I guess it's not that easy for him now. I see he was trying to swim straight. He tried and failed. I guess it's not that easy after 4 hours of treatments. He's still trying to straighten himself out. I'm not sure what he's trying to do. I think he may run out of air at the current rate because he doesn't seem to be taking any breaths. Or, if he does, I can't see them. Have to see how long he can last like this. I'm sure he's suffering. If this keeps up I'm sure he is going to die. He looks sad. I don't blame him. He's had a couple of really hard 4 hours. Wouldn't wish that treatment on any fish. He had a lot of fight in him and he fought like a champion. In the end, though, he was overpowered, and just couldn't continue to battle. Eventually, he lost out. This is why he's swimming on his side in circles at the top of the water now. More updates to follow. The next update could be his death.
ReplyDeleteHe wants to take a breath. I can tell. But he just can't seem to do it. I guess now it's just a question of how many minutes he will last. It's sad.
ReplyDeleteThe speed of his swimming in circles has slowed down. This could be near the end now.
ReplyDeleteWell the fish is still alive. I don't know how. He managed to straighten himself out, he is now vertical, probably because he's leaning against one side of the bowl. I still don't know if he has taken a breath though. I'll keep you posted.
ReplyDeleteBy the way he is flapping his fins, but not going anywhere.
Now he's at the top and vertical, but his head is tilted downward. I wonder if that means he's about to go to the bottom of the tank?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, he's still alive at this point but I don't know for how much longer he will be.
Same thing. The fish is vertically tilted down at his head. His fins are flapping. I think he's having a difficult time holding himself up. I think at one of these moments he's going to run out of energy and fall to the bottom, and that's going to be the end of it for him.
ReplyDeleteI helped him take a couple of breaths. But he went back to the same vertical position. I think his minutes are numbered.
ReplyDeleteThe fish is even more vertical now, and to one side a little. I think he's fighting for his life now.
ReplyDeleteI tried to help him take a breath again, he did I think but now he's almost straight vertical. This is not looking good.
ReplyDeleteWell I took him out of the water and put him on top to help him take a breath, and now he is flat on one side on the top of the water, breathing but not taking any additional breaths. Now he is starting to swim in a circle, on one side, on top of the water. Now he stopped. He's pretty much floating on the top. I saw him try to take a breath -- several times, but he could not do it. I'm going to stop helping him take breathes. I think I am just prolonging the inevitable by doing so. I'm just going to let him be.
ReplyDeleteThe fish is dead. He was getting weaker and weaker. I messed with him a little more. I poked at his eyes. I poked a little where his gills opened. I guess he just couldn't take it. Oh, and I flipped him on the floor accidentally while trying to take one of his eyes out. That was the end of it. I guess that was all he could take. I think his gills stopped moving after that. I thought I saw his fins flipping slightly, or some small movement, but whatever it was, he wasn't doing it for long. Then he just floated in the water. I brought him up on the fork to see if he would breath. He was not breathing. I guess his life was over.
ReplyDeleteI flushed him down the toilet. He came back up. I guess it wasn't a successful flush. I flushed him again. This time, he stayed down. That's it for that fish.
what the fuck is wrong with you?
