Latest Treatment to Betta Fish

What has happened to my betta fish? Two days ago, his fins were wide open, and beautiful. He swam against the sides of the bowl with such vigor. He was constantly swimming.

Now, he is weak. I administered another treatment to him tonight and I think it hit him pretty good. I would push him around with a fork and make him swim away. When he tried to come up for air, I would push him down. I only did this for I think 2 or 3 minutes, but it was a very intense treatment for my betta.

Now, he is staying on the bottom. He's breathing heavier than normal. I'm not sure what he wants to do. He's not swimming around anymore. I assume he will come up for air at some point. I will check on him a little while later.

If he continues to decline I will have no choice but to administer another treatment and let him loose the ability to swim. Then, tomorrow, I will replace him with another betta.

But I have hope for him. Maybe he will recover. This is a true test, to see really how much strength he's got left in him. Now his true colors will shine. I can tell he wants to move. Let's see if he succeeds.

The betta doesn't know it, but how he behaves in the next few hours, and tomorrow, will be the results that determine his life. Time will tell.

  1. I should add that as I was pushing him around, he began reacting less strongly to my pushes. I assume that he was loosing strength, or he was becoming injured.

Anyway, now he's just resting on the bottom of the bowl with his fins flapping. I'm waiting to see what he's going to do. I hope he will come up for air.

If I was a gentleman, and I think I am, I would lower the water level to make it easier for him to breath. I think I'll do that a little bit later.

Oh, up he goes for air. THat was good to see. Now, what will he do next. He's back on the bottom. Starting to swim around a little bit, but more kind of floating near the bottom. He's stationary now.

His fins are flapping. What is he going to do? He's swimming around the bottom a little. I'll come back in a few minutes for the next report. Right now, he's perfectly still on the bottom like before.

  2. Checking back on the fish. He is a little below the top of the tank now. He's fairly stationary. I see his fins move a little every now and then. Other than that, oh, here he goes, he's swimming a little, not sure where, now he's pretty much staying, oh, moving a little, he came up for air. His eyes don't look quite as lively as they used to. Up for air again he goes. Now he's staying near the top of the water. More reports to follow.

He's swimming to the bottom of the tank now. He seems to be staying there. Will keep you posted.

  3. Overall, I am not sure if I am satisfied with this betta fish's performance. True, he has been given multiple treatments today, and this must be taken into consideration. In all sincerity, he is not swimming around enough for me. Also, the speed of his swimming has greatly decreased. If he doesn't improve, I may have to replace him with another betta, and put this betta back into the cup from the store.

But, I will give him an opportunity to improve. And, I will not impose any more treatments on him tonight.

He is doing a little bit better than before. I will observe the betta tomorrow when I wake up to see if he is doing better.

I may go to the pet store tomorrow to look at a replacement betta, and put this betta in his cup.

But lets see how he does first. He has taken a lot of treatments today, and one treatment yesterday. The fact that he is still swimming around is definitely something he should be given credit for.

I wish his fins could be more spread out like they were on the first day when I got him.

    1. "Treatments" I'm very very disturbed by all this. You are hurting these poor fish and I'm begging you to please stop.
